George Cornet

George was the oldest member of the British water polo team which won Gold in the 1908 London and 1912 Stockholm Olympics. George was also the only Scot on the team. During his water polo career he represented Scotland 17 times.

George started playing water polo for the Inverness Amateurs who won the Scottish Championships once and also reached four other finals.  The Inverness Amateurs team was hailed as one of the best in Scotland in the early 20th century and between 1906 and the start of the First World War they competed in five Scottish Cup finals.

George married twice, his first wife dying giving birth to their second child and when he remarried he had another child. After ending his career in water polo George was Secretary of the Highland Railway and then, after amalgamation, Divisional Cashier of the LMSR. George died in Liverpool in 1952.
